Tour leader in Indonesia

Geoff lived in Hong Kong for 35 years before retiring with his wife and daughter to the rather more relaxed pace of life in Bali, from where he leads our east Java, Bali and Lombok tours. His focus was previously on the birds of north and east Asia and so Indonesia made a great change in that respect.

In Hong Kong, Geoff managed an ecological consultancy and now continues occasional work online as an ornithologist and ecologist. While there, he explored all parts of China, as well as Mongolia, Siberia, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Central Asia, India, Nepal, Bhutan and Armenia. His particular interest in sound recording vocalizations has meant he has contributed to several papers related to the taxonomy of birds that he has encountered.

Running a business meant that for a long time he couldn’t find the time to maintain an active eBird presence, but in the past few years he has begun to compensate for that. He is also in the process of reviewing and editing his large catalogue of recordings for eventual submission to the Macauley Library based at Cornell University. At the same time, he is using semi-retirement to travel to obtain more recordings.

Geoff is great with people, always interested in learning more about the countries from which our clients originate, and very happy to share his experiences of living in China and Indonesia.
