Birding Ecotours, as a company, emphasizes tour quality and small birding tour group sizes. So we’re not trying to be the least expensive birding tour company, but we do observe that our prices are usually competitive even compared to birdwatching tour operators that have larger group sizes and which prioritize budget (by using average accommodation and vehicle quality rather than superior quality).
For one of our birding tours to make it onto this page you’re currently looking at, it has to be handpicked by us for one or more of the following reasons:
- We believe the birding holiday is at a bargain price, less expensive than for what other international birding tour companies are offering similar tours. This does sometimes happen. For example our Uganda birding tours, although of high quality and very small group sizes, are (strangely) the most budget ones we can find when comparing our tour with that of other birding tour operators.
- We have managed to lower our tour price recently, often making our trip the best value on the market (since, again, quality is of greater importance to us than price, but when we find our trip is also essentially a “budget birding tour” even though the quality and group size is superior, it gets onto this page as it’s considered exceptional value for money as its inexpensive and high quality).
- If stated as such, we do occasionally run typical budget bird and nature tours, but we then clearly state that the accommodation and other aspects of the tour are not up to our usual standards, as for whatever reason we’ve instead created a “bargain price birding tour”. This is unusual, as our reputation is based on quality rather than trying to be the cheapest birding tour operator.
We of course do understand that many (probably most) birders of course do want their budget to go further, and we quite often have people telling us they have a set annual budget, and with that budget they’d rather do two birding tours a year rather than one. So we fully appreciate that many birders do need bargain birding vacations to make their money go further and to enable them to do more birding. We are of course able to cater to this when asked. We do run many tailor-made trips, and if you’re a budget-conscious birder we can set you up with a good local guide, without our international birding tour leader, who of course adds to the price. In Madagascar, Borneo, and other destinations we quite often put together really well-priced tours, even for just two or three participants, with the local guides we work with in these countries and without one of our full-time staff members. Bird photographers, who need even more space in the tour vehicles than we usually provide, can benefit from this model.
The other way of you saving money is by asking us for a scouting trip or a guide training tour. Many birders not only like the price of these trips (as essentially they’re just covering our costs for us to learn a new country, or to train one of our staff members to lead birding trips to that country in the future), but they also really enjoy the adventure and excitement aspect. These trips usually run like clockwork, but because they’re scouting trips we can’t guarantee it (by definition). Please contact us if you’re interested in any of these discounted or “on sale” ways of birding a country with us on a budget.
Finally, before you peruse our “Birding Tours on Sale” below, we’d like to emphasize again that our first priority is to offer superior quality and smaller group sizes, compared to other birding tour operators. Sometimes we do, however, just find that our trips are exceptional value, and in those cases we sometimes put them onto this page (but please note that the bulk of the tours throughout our website are competitively priced anyway).
